Music in every fiber
Nilanda NI44
Ta-ta-ta-taaa. If we introduce a new carpet with probably the most famous sounds from the world of classical music, then it has to be a very special one. Three eighths on G and a long E flat, this is how Beethoven's 5th Symphony begins. Everyone knows her, everyone loves her. It has become known as the Symphony of Destiny.
However, it is not fate that we present our Nilanda NI44 in January as inspiration. It's just as intentional, because no other rug could herald the New Year better than this masterpiece made from the purest silk and highest quality highland wool.
Silk and highland wool in artistic composition
The Nilanda NI44 is a composition by our designers Dani and Sascha Misio and it is, so to speak, an orchestral symphony of color, ornamentation, design, material and knotting technique. The harmony of all these elements makes this carpet an invitation to affirm life with all its intensity and depth. With its ornamentation, the Nilanda NI44 delves deep into the history of oriental carpets , which is further emphasized by the vintage look. Its colors play with emotions, its feel is that of a pure silk carpet and its charisma turns any room into a concert hall.
Beethoven's 5th Symphony was premiered in December 1808 and is probably a prime example of the immortality of art. We don't know where our carpets will be in 200 years, whether anyone will still be resting on them or dancing on them. But we know that we want to create exactly these opportunities with our quality standards. We make no compromises when it comes to the materials used in our Nilanda NI44. More than 75 percent of the purest Chinese silk is used. The raw silk is hand-dyed on site in our carpet manufactory in Nepal and ultimately becomes the fiber that gives our Nilanda NI44 its incomparably soft hand feel and delicately shiny surface.
What is not silk on this rug is made from Tibetan highland wool. The wool-producing sheep live in the mountainous regions of the Himalayas, where only very fatty wool protects against extreme weather conditions. This wool is also dyed by hand using pure natural dyes. This creates the starting material for weaving a carpet that has every characteristic that only increases in radiance and beauty over the years.
“True art remains everlasting”
The small use of highland wool (around 25 percent) in both carpets in our Nilanda Collection primarily serves to accentuate the carpet design . It is the emphasis, the crescendo of the symphony, appearing where more power, more volume is necessary, and then all of a sudden, subito piano, giving the space back to the delicate silk.
The artful play with the medallion pattern once developed in Persia, which is expanded here to include several medallions reflecting on the longitudinal axis of the carpet, spans the arc between history, between yesterday and today, and thus shows that Beethoven's quote “True “Art remains everlasting.” The outstanding composer of the Viennese classical period did not believe in an inevitable fate, but in the power of creativity and that this creativity could bring something into the world that would outlast everything else.
The sound makes the music
Our creative artists work in our carpet manufactory in Nepal. All Mischioff designer carpets and of course our Nilanda NI44 are created there. It takes several months to create a carpet with a knot density of 160,000 knots per square meter and to complete all the final work.
We have been working with the Swiss certification label STEP for more than ten years. In cooperation with their employees, we ensure that the entire process of creating our fair trade carpets is based on fair conditions and human cooperation. Good working conditions are not only created for the weavers, their families and, above all, the children's education are also important to us. We go even further and also check the suppliers and delivery routes so that we can finally say: With the Nilanda NI44, music sounds in every fiber. We want to avoid discordant sounds throughout the entire production process.
