Hanging by a thread

Svarga Plain ARS1A20

The idiom "hanging by a thread" signifies danger and threat. It suggests that a silken thread is not secure and, above all, not tear-resistant. However, the exact opposite is true. So, should your life ever hang by a thread, relax; there's no need to panic.

Our featured inspiration here is a pure silk rug from the Svarga Plain Collection. This rug collection comprises our solid-color rugs made from 100% high-quality Chinese silk. A total of 1,400 colors are available for a Svarga Plain rug. For our inspiration, we chose the color ARS1A20, an elegant and understated gray that perfectly highlights the advantages of a pure silk rug.

A mistake in Greek history

The story goes that Damocles envied his ruler Dionysius for his power and wealth. Dionysius then gave Damocles his place at the royal table. However, when Damocles noticed that a sword hung above his head, suspended only by a thin thread, he readily relinquished his seat and learned the lesson: wealth and power offer no protection from danger, but are often its cause. The origin of the idiom "hanging by a thread" is attributed to this story. It's likely that the idiom refers to the fact that the thread must have been very thin, as a silk thread undoubtedly is. But it doesn't usually break.

The natural fiber silk possesses remarkable properties. Its structure is very fine and smooth, making silk so supple and soft. Among all natural fibers, it has the highest elasticity, one reason for its enormous tensile strength. The fact that silk threads are very thin allows for a particularly high knot density, especially in carpet manufacturing. For example, our Svarga Plain ARS1A20 has a knot density of 125,000 knots per square meter. Combined with a pile height of 20 millimeters, this makes it an exceptionally luxurious furnishing element for living spaces.

Monochromatic, yet not monotonous

Our Svarga Plain ARS1A20 is a master of transformation. Depending on the light, its silky surface shimmers in a thousand shades. The subtle variations of its single color ensure the rug never appears monotonous. The soft gray interacts with its surroundings, bringing an exceptional sense of exclusivity and comfort to any room with its subtle sheen.

Thanks to their pile height, the carpets in the Svarga Plain Collection also excellent at dampening room noise. This creates a pleasant acoustic environment, especially in large rooms. This masterpiece of carpet craftsmanship retains all its advantages even after years of use.

Masterful craftsmanship

a pure silk carpet with such a high knot density by hand takes several months. The hand-dyeing of the silk threads alone is a painstaking process. In our Manufactory in Nepal, dyers and carpet weavers practice their craft with years of experience. We at Mischioff value this expertise and ensure that it is preserved and maintained. Fair treatment, just wages, and caring for the living environment of our employees are of utmost importance to us.

Many years ago, we therefore decided to collaborate with the Swiss label STEP to jointly ensure lasting and sustainable stability throughout the entire manufacturing process of our fair-trade carpets . Even though much in our carpet manufactory depends on silk threads, there is never any risk involved.
