The old in the new

Circlism C22

The carpet brand Mischioff has existed for three generations today. Founded in Switzerland after World War II by the grandfather of the two current managing directors, Dani and Sascha Misio, it was developed into one of the leading carpet companies by their father and expanded into a globally recognized carpet design house by the two sons.

In hardly any other of the numerous carpet collections are tradition and change as visible as in the Circlism Collection . Our inspiration this February, a month in which the old year is still palpable, but the new one is already being embraced with great energy, is therefore the Circlism C22.

The colors from One Thousand One Nights

The Circlism C22 is certainly not a classic Oriental rug , yet its roots are palpable. The geometric style, the focus on the circle, the suggestion of ornamentation in the center, the lines and colors, and not least the knotting technique and choice of materials – the old is always present in the new. And only those who know the old can creatively shape the new.

Deep, matte blue and nocturnal black form the backdrop against which the almost evenly spaced colored circles stand out. They shine brightly against the darkness. They almost seem to flicker and sparkle, as if in motion. On the color palette, orange, gray, brown, beige, green, and white blend into a cheerful mix. The circles are repeatedly interrupted, their boundaries with the background blurring, often becoming indistinguishable from it.

They are reminiscent of the tales from One Thousand and One Nights, which Scheherazade told the king night after night. She never finished a story, but always told the ending only on the following night, when she immediately began the next one. With this never-ending cycle, in which the old is replaced by the new, she ultimately ensured her survival.

A carpet to take off

Flying carpets are indeed rare in the tales of One Thousand and One Nights, but with the Circlism C22, you're essentially booking a tour through the history of carpets. It takes several months to fully produce a designer carpet like the Circlism C22. The circles with their varying colors, weaving require the utmost dexterity.

The Tibetan knot is a knotting technique that uses a rod placed across the entire width of the carpet in front of the warp threads. The yarn is first looped around two threads of the warp and then around the rod. The knots are formed when the loops are subsequently cut. This unique knotting technique allows for the effective creation of complex designs such as that of the Circlism C22.

Traditional craftsmanship – Fairly traded

Hundreds of years ago, the art of carpet weaving was brought to Nepal by the Tibetans and continued there. The Mischioff carpet manufactory is also based in Nepal and stands in this tradition. Preserving the exceptional craftsmanship of the weavers working there is of paramount importance.

Fair working conditions, fair wages, education for the children, and always keeping the individual and their environment in mind – that's why Mischioff joined the Fair Trade label STEP long ago, enabling them to implement precisely these principles. The origin of the materials used and the suppliers are also constantly monitored. Only in this way is it possible to meet Mischioff's high standards and quality requirements. Quality and humanity characterize the Nepalese carpets , which ultimately become lifelong companions for our customers.
