Getting to the bottom of things
Despite its linear pattern, the Tibey TB39 is anything but boring. The interplay of interest is created by the unique knotting technique, the Loop & Cut technique, and by the color scheme. This extraordinary combination of color and technique makes the Tibey TB39 a rug that only reveals its complexity, and thus the signature design of Mischioff, upon closer inspection.
Loop & Cut is a knotting technique in which only one knotting line is cut at a time. The Tibey TB39 is made of 50 percent highland wool and 50 percent Chinese silk. The silk line is cut, while the wool line remains closed. The wool line thus appears to lie deeper, remaining in the background, while the open silk line stands out, giving the rug its distinctive texture.
The silk line also serves as the base for the pattern and is thus responsible for the color gradient on top. And if you look closely, you'll see that this color gradient is now intersected by the black loop line. In fact, a grid is created here in the Tibey TB39. Horizontal lines, resulting from the knotting technique, and vertical lines, which carry the pattern. Although a grid is understood as a fundamental system of order, in this extraordinary rug it is not the basis, but rather the result of the creative process.
The interplay of high-quality natural materials
This tension is addressed once again in the choice of materials. Although wool and silk are often considered fundamentally different in their properties and effects, they are an ideal pairing in carpet design. Highland wool , obtained from sheep grazing in the high-altitude regions of the Himalayas, possesses all the qualities necessary to make a carpet resilient, robust, and durable. The self-cleaning properties, resilience, and sound reduction of pure new wool are advantages that noticeably enhance the comfort and atmosphere of any room where such a carpet is placed.
The exclusive elegance is then brought about by the high-quality Chinese silk. Silk, the only naturally occurring continuous textile fiber, originates in China, where Mischioff silk is also produced. Silkworm breeding is very labor-intensive and, in fact, not very productive. Up to three thousand cocoons are needed for approximately 250 grams of silk. This leads to the very high prices of this exceptional material. But quality silk is unsurpassed not only in price, but also in its properties. No other material looks as elegant and refined, feels as soft and seductive as silk . Furthermore, silk is extremely tear-resistant, temperature-regulating, and hypoallergenic. A rug made of wool and silk, like our Tibey TB39, therefore combines the best qualities of two high-quality materials.

Our carpet manufactory in Nepal is continuously monitored by STEP, and its working conditions are thoroughly examined.

Enabling school attendance for the children of the weavers, as well as ensuring their health, safety, and environmental protection, are the cornerstones of STEP's work.
