Masters of understated aesthetics

Mamlin MA17

Once again, we enter the extraordinary world of our Mamlin collection with a special color variation. With the Mamlin MA17, this collection is now enriched by a work of art whose understated elegance has already won over many admirers in a short time.

A designer rug knotted in equal parts from highland wool and silk, the color scheme understated yet striking, the striped pattern simple at first glance, but on closer inspection a painting made of thousands of brushstrokes.

Like an unobtrusive smile

Dani Misio is not only the managing director and designer at Mischioff, but his great passion is painting. While painting and carpet design are usually two separate areas, they merge seamlessly in the Mamlin collection. His striped paintings on canvas have been and continue to be the source of inspiration and a model for the Mamlin carpets, all of which use the striped design as their foundation, albeit in different colorways.

Transferring canvas art to a carpet, however, presents a very special challenge and requires several months of handwork for each Mamlin carpet. This is the secret to the exceptional nature of these modern carpets .

Calm and understated, the Mamlin MA17 rug envelops the viewer with its elegant silver-gray hue, like a gentle smile that awakens the senses and leaves ample room for the imagination. Despite its lines, the rug doesn't appear static. It is the dynamic interplay of harmonious color transitions and delicate lines that, through the special knotting technique and the materials used, gains its unique expression.

In the Loop & Cut technique, the deeper, black wool lines made of pure Himalayan highland wool contrast with the higher, shimmering silvery-gray silk lines. Almost hidden in the base, the wool provides stability and a firm feel, while the silk on the surface lends the designer rug grace and a particularly soft texture. In this way, technique and material transform what was once created on a canvas with brushstrokes into a rug whose effect is in no way inferior to that of a painting.

Hands create art

But technology alone is not enough; skilled hands are also needed to apply it. Carpets of the high quality of a Mamlin MA17 are made entirely by hand at the Mischioff Manufactory in Nepal. Before any knotting begins, however, the necessary dyes and knotting yarn are first produced.

After the yarn is dyed, the knotting process begins, lasting several months. This is followed by the finishing stage. The edges of the rug are bound, the fibers are cut to a uniform height, the rug is washed, dried, and stretched. All steps of this process are meticulously monitored and subject to continuous quality control.
