Mamlin MA17
Once again we are entering the extraordinary world of our Mamlin collection with a special color variant. With the Mamlin MA17, this collection is now enriched by a work of art that has already found many lovers in a short time with its subtle grace.
A designer carpet made from equal parts highland wool and silk, the colors are reserved yet concise, the striped pattern is simple at first glance, but upon closer inspection it is a painting made up of thousands of brush strokes.
Like an unobtrusive smile
Dani Misio is not only managing director and designer at Mischioff, his big hobby is painting. While painting and carpet design are otherwise two separate areas, in the Mamlin collection they flow into one another. His striped paintings on canvas were and are a source of inspiration and model for the Mamlin carpets, all of which are based on the striped design in different colors.
However, transferring the canvas art to a rug presents a unique challenge and requires several months of handwork for each Mamlin rug. This is the secret to the exceptional nature of these modern carpets .
It lies there quietly and reservedly, the Mamlin MA17, it ensnares the viewer with elegance in its silver-grey colors and looks like an unobtrusive smile that inspires the senses and leaves plenty of room for the imagination. Despite the lines, the carpet does not appear static. It is the dynamic interplay of harmonious color transitions and fine lines that gains special expression through the special knotting technique and the materials used.
With the Loop & Cut technique, it is the lower-lying, black wool lines made from pure Himalayan highland wool that contrast with the higher-lying, silvery-gray shimmering silk lines. The wool is almost hidden in the surface and ensures stability and resistance to wear, while the silk on the surface gives the designer carpet grace and a particularly soft feel. Technology and material are able to transform what was once created from brush strokes on a canvas into a carpet whose effect is in no way inferior to that of a painting.
Hands create art
But technology alone is not enough; you also need the hands that can use it. Carpets of the high quality of a Mamlin MA17 are created entirely by hand in the Mischioff Manufactory in Nepal. But before we start knotting here, we first produce the required colors and the knotting yarn ourselves.
After the yarn has been dyed, the knotting work begins, which lasts several months. This is followed by the so-called finishing. The sides of the carpet are linked, the fibers are cut to a height, the carpet is washed, dried and stretched. All steps in this process are carefully controlled and are subject to constant quality checks.
Good working conditions, fair wages
But just as we care about the quality of our carpets, we also keep an eye on the working conditions in the Manufactory . The Swiss fair trade label STEP supports us locally. STEP employees not only control the entire value chain, they also support the weavers in ensuring that the work in the Manufactory becomes a solid basis for social interaction.
School education for the children, care for the very little ones, fair pay for the weavers, safety in the workplace and advocacy for labor rights - these are all things that Mischioff and STEP implement together and for which Mischioff certifies their fair trade carpets takes responsibility.
