Everything is change
Sichouk SI50
In our latitudes, we associate the month of August with high summer temperatures and lots of time under the blue sky. We know August as a summer month. But south of the equator, August is a winter month.
So it always depends on which point of view we take. If we change our point of view, everything changes. It's the same with our featured rug, the Sichouk SI50. This hand-knotted designer rug is an invitation to change your point of view.
Panta Rhei - a new carpet every morning
Everything flows - we cannot get into the same river twice. This is the short formula on which the world view of the ancient thinker Heraclitus is based. Following this, can we then lie down on the same carpet twice? No, according to Heraclitus we cannot, because everything is in constant change.
So the Sichouk SI50 you place in your living space is a new rug every morning and yet remains a Sichouk SI50. Just as you are constantly changing and yet remain you.
Now Heraclitus was not a carpet philosopher and we will not appoint him one, but his world view is still very relevant today, or especially today. Although the ancient tradition of carpet weaving seems to contradict the constant process of coming into being and passing away a little, since it opposes today's fast pace of life by holding on to old traditions, change is also noticeable in the carpet craft.
The company Mischioff was founded in the 1940s in Switzerland. Quickly the small carpet retailer became a well-known importer of classic oriental carpets. The two sons and today's managing directors, Dani and Sascha Misio , launched their first own carpet collection in the 90s and became pioneers of modern carpet development with their completely new designs and subtle coloring. With their reinterpretation of antique designs, completely new theme worlds were created.
Achieving the highest levels of quality has always been the focus, and this is exemplified by the Sichouk Collection with its pure silk carpets. The latest carpet of this collection, the Sichouk SI50 presented here, stands in the tradition of previous work and is at the same time an expression of constant development and change.
A masterpiece of modern carpet making
As a pure silk carpet with a pile height of about eight to nine millimeters, it is a carpet that plays with the light, every breeze and at the same time with the viewer. The earthy colors give Sichouk SI50 the character of a robust companion, the silky shimmer makes it a gentleman among carpets and the light and cheerful design gives it youthful charm. Whatever you want to see in this carpet, it's all there.
Sichouk SI50 is a masterpiece of modern carpet making, and also a master of changeability. Depending on which room it embellishes, its effect is always adapted to the things surrounding it. In a modern setting with clean lines and few distractions, it will be the radiant focal point. But just as well the Sichouk SI50 is at home in a rustic half-timbered house, where it conjures up a lot of coziness with its warmth.
The Sichouk SI50 changes rooms and thus shows what a Mischioff carpet is capable of and that Heraclitus was perhaps a carpet philosopher after all with his thoughts on becoming and changing? Although Heraclitus is said not to have been a particularly great philanthropist, his philosophical disputes were always about the essence of man. And nothing characterizes the essence of a person more than the living spaces he creates for himself.
Tradition in change
The craft of carpet weaving is an ancient one and in fact it is still carried out today as it was many hundreds of years ago. But the general conditions have changed many times. To ensure that the human being is in the foreground during the production process of the Mischioff fair trade car pets, we have been working together with the Swiss certification label STEP for more than ten years. Thanks to this cooperation, the working and living conditions of the weavers are not only fair, but constantly improved.
The standards set by the International Labor Organization (ILO) are the basis of STEP's work. These include criteria for workplace design, fair payment, the promotion of training, ecological production methods and, of course, the exclusion of any child labor. In this way, Mischioff also becomes a part of the change that people have the power to shape themselves - towards a better world.
