An equally important aspect for fair trade carpets is the clear principle: child labor is prohibited! Thanks to various measures and initiatives, the proportion of child labor has fallen rapidly over the last ten years. This is also ensured by fair wages, which means that child labor is no longer necessary to secure the livelihood of the weaving families.
Instead, the children are accommodated in established daycare centers and taught in schools. Compliance with the ban on child labor is regularly monitored and is an important licensing condition for the fair carpet trade.
As a long-standing partner of the independent fair trade organization Label STEP, Mischioff advocates for the strict ban on child labor and supports the establishment of daycare centers and schools. In addition to the unannounced controls by Label STEP, the two Mischioff managing directors Dani and Sascha Misio also regularly check compliance with the self-imposed fair trade standards in their own production facilities.
For the traditional Swiss company, the fair production of its own carpet collections is not only a matter of the heart, but a matter of course. The various collections are all certified as fair trade carpets by the STEP label. Thanks to intensive cooperation with the fair trade organization, the production of our own carpet lines has been sustainably improved.
Various organizations promote fair trade in handmade carpets. These include in particular the German organizations GoodWeave , Care & Fair and the Swiss counterpart label STEP . The organizations take action against abusive child labor and promote the ecological production of carpets - principles that Mischioff also represents in its own corporate philosophy.
During unannounced visits to the Manufactory , the guidelines are checked and possible defects are recorded for immediate elimination. A seal of quality is awarded to manufacturers and Retailer who adhere to the specified guidelines. Only those who meet all fair trade criteria receive certificates for their products as genuine fair trade carpets.
Mischioff carpet production is tested and certified by Label STEP. The independent nonprofit organization has insights into companies' material purchases and supply chains to ensure complete transparency.
Label STEP's mission is to promote good living and working conditions in the production areas, promote environmentally friendly carpet production and support sustainable development in the production of handmade carpets.
