Swiss Embassy Athens
Geometry as a link in the Swiss embassy in Athens
A special collection highlights the Swiss Embassy's cross-border connections to Greece
The Swiss Embassy in Greece has a living space of 830 square meters on a property that extends over an area of 4,500 square meters. Located in Chalandri, the Swiss embassy is on the outskirts of Athens. The building was built in 1929 - time to bring some fresh air to the premises.
In 2013 it was decided to restore the Swiss embassy - a lot has happened since then. These include: the renovation of the roof and the entire building envelope with improved thermal insulation, the installation of new technical heating and cooling technology, a revision of the electricity, plumbing and drainage system and the introduction of solar panels. The property was also fenced in and the rooms were redesigned.
For the latter, carpets from our company were used. A special design that was made just for the Swiss embassy in Greece highlights the close connection to Greece and the country's history in a special way. The pattern consisting of different colored triangles is striking. A geometric symbolism that is closely interwoven with Greek history.
Pythagorean geometry emerged at the end of the 300-year revolution in Greek society and laid a fundamental foundation for our understanding of the world today - not just in a mathematical context. The circle can also be found as a geometric shape in our carpet design. In addition to all the mathematical fascinations that go along with the circle, the circle also always symbolizes a closed unit - and this perfectly describes the self-image of an embassy located abroad as a host country.
