The antique Chinese carpets in the Mischioff Collection were created between 1820 and 1930 - they are up to two hundred years old and are particularly well preserved in impeccable condition. The collection includes Chinese carpets from different regions: Pao Tou, Ningxia, Chotan, Kashgar and Beijing carpets make up the majority of the collection.

Rare Pao Tou carpets from China
The most famous Chinese carpet comes from the Pao Tou (Baotou) , where the carpet trade its greatest focus. In this area, artistic carpets were initially made for home use and later also for international export. Characteristic of these Chinese carpets is the dark blue background , on which the loving, multi-colored motifs are particularly beautifully presented.
Beige and red were rarely used as primary colors. The motifs often come from the animal and plant world or reflect local life - the basis is often traditional stories and legends such as the journey of Confucius or the emperor's horses. The variety is endless and every Chinese carpet delights its viewer.

The carpets from the Chinese region of Ningxia are also unmistakable. These special Chinese carpets play with traditional symbols and are usually very colorfully knotted .
