Rug Of The Month August 2017 – The Marouk MK33

Did you know that many Berber families lived a nomadic or semi-nomadic life until into the 20th century? Some do this even to this day and the traditional carpet knotting is still part of their lifestyle and everyday activities in many regions. We pick up the theme of nomadic Berber carpets in a new look with our rug of the month August 2017.

The Marouk MK33 is one design of many rugs of the Marouk Collection, in which we have reinterpreted and modernized these traditional woolen carpets.

Tradition Meets Modernity

Mischioff transferred the typically asymmetrical motifs of berber carpets, such as triangles and rhombuses, in new design templates. The Marouk MK33 and the further design and variant models of the collection have a modern and decorative appeal, which sets exciting contrasts to straight-lined facilities. The design of the Marouk MK33 convinces with a golden-brown ground pile, whose natural appearance is reminiscent of hemp fibers, and motifs in a trendy mix of blue, grey and white.

We also rely on tradition in material selection. Like their role models, the Marouk rugs consist of 100 percent sheep’s wool. For our rugs we use high-quality new wool from the Himalayan highlands, which offers a very gentle pile. With approx. 90,000 Tibetan knots per square metre, the Marouk rugs are processed carefully by hand and provide a rustic appearance. The coarser weave is ideal for the robust look of the Berber carpets of this collection.

High-Quality Materials Hand-Crafted Have A Particular Charme!

Even renowned architects and designers have succumbed to the charms of the Berber carpets – for Alvar Alto, Le Corbusier or Ray and Charles Eames, they were part of a stylish interior.

We are quite sure that our rug if the month MK33 fits in many facilities and will impress with its particular look. After all, not only the material and processing quality are first class, but also the fresh design and nomadic look.

The special feature: the natural colour shades, also called "abrashs", bases on the mix of the hand-spun wool and create an individual look of each rug.

Fair Trade With Handmade Carpets

The Marouk MK33 is orderable in the standard sizes 300 x 230 cm or 250 x 185 cm as well as in individual custom size. The rug has a pile height of about 10 to 12 millimeters and a weight of about 4,0 kg / m². As all our collections, the Marouk MK33 is produced under fair conditions in a manufactory in Nepal. We guarantee a fair production of our rugs through our partnership with the Fair Trade Label STEP. With unannounced inspections of the manufactories, Label STEP controls the compliance with the guidelines and specifications for the fair trade with handmade carpets.
