Rug Of The Month January 2020 - The Mamlin MA15

Stripe pictures are not a completely new topic in art history. Important artists have already tried this discipline of the abstract. So does our chief designer Dani Misio, who expresses his creativity as a painting artist as well as a carpet designer. He finally comes up with the idea of turning his painted stripes into carpets.

The handicraft challenges were not small, but thanks to our outstanding weavers, they were overcome. The result was our Mamlin collection. We have now been able to expand this collection with a new work of art, the Mamlin MA15: lively in shape, soothing in colours and now our rug of the month for the start of 2020.

The Jump Into The Cool Water

It has become a tradition in many countries to jump into cold water on New Year's Day. So daring people jump in Rome in the Tiber, in Dresden it is the jump in the Elbe and there is also this practice on the Baltic and North Sea. Don't worry, we don't want to throw you into the cold water, we just want to wake up a few sleeping spirits. This is exactly what our Mamlin MA15 can do with facilities, it brings them out of hibernation as it were.

The cool blue that flows together with gray, brown and beige tones becomes an eye-catcher and pick-me-up thanks to the stripe-shaped course. The viewer's gaze is drawn into the picture of broken lines and harmonizing colours. The gold tones on the edge of the rug form a completion and leave room for further thoughts thanks to the continued stripe pattern.

Mamlin MA15

Craftmanship Which Offers Unequaled Opportunities

What makes the Mamlin MA15 a true work of art is not only the design, but also the craftsmanship and the very special material used here. In equal parts, the Mamlin MA15 is made of highland wool from the Himalayas and fine silk from China. Different pile heights of the two materials provide structure and thus an attractive play of light and shadow on the carpet surface.

The wool lays in the background, while the lines of silk are slightly higher, giving the rug the elegance and feel of a pure silk carpet. The combination of wool and silk makes the Mamlin MA15 a long-lasting and robust companion that does not lose any of its freshness and radiance even after years of use.

Sustainable Production And Fair Trade

It takes several months to create such a carpet. The Mischioff manufactory in Nepal is certified by the Swiss fair trade label STEP, which means fair wages for the people working there, childcare for children and schooling for older children during working hours.

However, it is not only the working conditions that are scrutinized, the supply chains and therefore the entire value chain are also subject to strict controls. For the Mischioff managing directors and their partners, this is an important matter and an expression of their understanding of quality and their appreciation of the craftsmanship of their weavers.
