The Rug Of The Month May 2016 – The Marouk MK01

As our rug of the month in May 2016, we like to present you the Marouk MK01, made of 100 percent Himalayan highland wool.

This rug is part of Mischioff’s new Marouk Collection, which is weaved a little bit coarser than other collections. With approximately 93.000 knots per square metre, the production of these carpets is faster with a lower price than other collections.

Robust Rugs With A Soft Pile

The Marouk MK01 is similar to a classic Berber carpet and combines light beige wool with motives in nice blue. The simple, graphic motifs create a modern and decorative look. In addition, the asymmetric arrangement provides a nice contrast to rather straight interiors.

All Mischioff carpets are exclusively made by hand. Despite the lower knot density, the rugs of the Marouk Collection are very durable and have a dense and pleasant gentle pile. Experienced weavers manufacture these rugs in modern manufactories in Nepal, using highest-quality Himalayan highland wool.

The Marouk rugs have very nice natural colour gradients, the so-called "Abrashs", which additionally enhance the individual look of each carpet. Compared to usual long-pile, shaggy Berber carpets, the smooth pile of the Marouk rugs, with a pile height of about 10 millimeters, is low-maintenance and very robust.

Marouk MK01

Combination Of Traditional And Modern Interior

The Marouk MK01 is one model of a number of different Berber designs within the Marouk Collection. The collection offers exciting and varying rugs that combine tradition with modernity. Thus, these Berber carpets can be set in a contemporary interior, offering a very decorative look. This trend bases on a long history. Originally, this type of carpet is made of the nomadic tribes from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco.

The special charm of this particular carpets was noticed by many renowned architects and designers. For example, popular architects like Alvar Alto, Le Corbusier or Ray and Charles Eames used Berber carpets in their own interiors.
