Expressive personality

Sichouk SI46

Do you see pebbles in a river? Do you see mountain ranges glittering in the sun? Or do you simply see a series of differently colored surfaces? Does the sight of this rug even remind you of Pablo Picasso? What is your personal association with our inspiration of the month, the Sichouk SI46?

Without embarking on a reception-aesthetics discussion of carpet viewing, the questions posed are intended to highlight the importance of the viewer. This is especially true since our designer carpets reflect the personal living situations and lifestyles of their owners. After all, no one places a carpet in their living room or bedroom that they don't like, that doesn't enhance their sense of well-being in some way.

Personality as the key

The Sichouk SI46 has personality. Understated in its coloring, yet expressive in its design. And like all Sichouk carpets from Mischioff: uncompromising and uncompromising in its choice of materials.

Pure Chinese silk with a knot density of 160,000 knots per square meter and a pile height of eight to nine millimeters ensures a distinctive sheen and feel for which these exclusive silk carpets are loved.

Often underestimated, this material is the best thing that can happen to a carpet. Silk is exceptionally durable, creates a pleasant indoor climate, captivates viewers with incredible color brilliance, and, moreover, such a carpet retains its shape permanently.

The Sichouk SI46's careful use of color, where light beige tones are combined with soft grey tones, and then stand out again against the different blue tones, underlines its thoroughly sensual effect.

The illusion of movement

Viewed from a distance, the surfaces of the Sichouk SI46 appear almost monochromatic, but upon closer inspection, a single color field reveals itself as a chain of harmonious tones from the same color family. Connected in both the large and small details, this creates the illusion of movement, which is further enhanced by the shimmering of the delicate silk threads.

Do you still see pebbles in a river, or do you now, upon closer inspection, also feel the wind playing with the water's surface? Where does art originate? Is it already there, or does it only become reality through the eyes of the beholder?

The creative process

Every artistic creative process is communication, a conversation between artist and viewer. However, in the creation of Mischioff carpets, there are other people involved in this conversation: the carpet weavers in our Manufactory in Nepal. It is not without reason that we speak of craftsmanship here, for the skill these people demonstrate is so extraordinary that without them, a work of art like our Sichouk SI46 would forever remain just an idea.

At Mischioff, we understand these people for what they are: an essential part of the creative process. We value and protect them and their skills. They are the ones who produce our knotting yarn from raw Chinese silk, they prepare the dyes by hand, and they dye the yarns before finally creating a rug like the Sichouk SI46, often through months of painstaking handwork.
