A blooming ocean
It's as if someone has covered the sea with blossoms, inviting you to plunge into the refreshing water. The silvery-gray shimmering background supports the seemingly randomly arranged splashes of color, ranging from warm yellow to subtle pink to vibrant red. Soft browns and ochres hint at the seabed, where you can walk barefoot.
Viewed from a distance, the classic oriental ornamentation adorning the Nilanda NI38 is clearly visible. The medallion in the center of the carpet resembles an island in the ocean, reflecting and orienting everything around it.
Like all Nilanda rugs, the Nilanda NI38 is made of approximately 75 percent pure silk. The finest Himalayan highland wool is used as a stylistic element where the silk design needs to be emphasized and contrasted to create the unique expressiveness of this rug. The fine materials allow for a high knot density of 160,000 knots per square meter, which is responsible for the rug's considerable weight and thus ensures excellent stability underfoot.
Handcrafted from the very beginning
The production of the Nilanda NI38 is an elaborate and highly precise process. At every stage, this process is characterized by meticulous handcraftsmanship. The knotting yarn, as well as the individual colors, are produced in-house. The yarns are hand-dyed and then, over several weeks, painstakingly knotted into the artwork that, after finishing (chaining, cutting, washing, drying, and blocking), becomes a Nilanda NI38.
The people who work at the Mischioff Manufactory in Nepal have mastered their craft to perfection. And in cooperation with the Swiss fair trade label STEP, we take responsibility for their well-being. This ensures that sustainable and fair conditions prevail from the sourcing of raw materials to the supply chains and production itself. Only through the exceptional skill of the weavers and by foregoing machine production can the works of art be created for which the Mischioff brand is synonymous.
